Weatherpost and The Devil's Riding School

Other volcanic cones developed as the island grew, this first phase of activity producing the south-east corner of the island with craters of light grey lava such as Weatherpost (picture below left), and White Horse.

The island then became quiet for some time, until a second phase of vulcanism produced Mountain Red Hill, South Red Crater and Traveller's Hill. A massive explosion at this time formed the Devil's Riding School (picture below right).

This explosion made a very large hole which filled with water. This then slowly evaporated to leave the concentric rings.
