Philatelic Aspects of Ascension

Ascension Island is small and isolated, being only seven miles wide and lying in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean, midway between Brazil and Angola at about 8 degrees South and 14 degrees West.

Its nearest neighbour is the mother colony of St Helena, some 800 miles to the Southeast, of which it has been a dependancy since 1922.
