RED-NECKED FRANCOLIN Francolinus afer

Red-necked Francolins were introduced to Ascension from Africa in 1851. They are widespread around the slopes of Green Mountain but are not common and not easy to see. The best places to see francolins are in the early morning along the NASA road and on the mountain road, or walking on the lower slopes of the mountain, for example in the area around Bullocks Ponds.
