DAMSELFISH, LUBBOCK'S YELLOWTAIL

Stegastes lubbocki

The distinctive golden tail is what attracts attention. A small fish with a dark body which occasionally flashes a brilliant royal blue if closer to the surface, it is found everywhere in small numbers, but can be seen in shoals off reef cliffs. Quite an aggressive little fish, it chases fish much larger than itself. The young are tiny, and all brilliant royal blue with the distinctive golden tails. Ascension only.
